1.

becoming quiet and still, aware of God and yourself

God is in this place - and in you.

Who are you, and how are you, at this moment?

Look at the potatoes and take one which somehow represents who and how you are.

Sit with it quietly for a while; become more deeply aware of God and of yourself.

(sprouting) seed potatoes, sacking, small table, chancel cushions for pew

2.

reviewing your spiritual journey

God is with you, and has been with you all through your spiritual journey.

Take time to look back - right back to your birth, or just the beginning of Lent, or a time in between...

Take a strip of paper and draw a time-line to chart this journey.

Mark what seem to be the significant ups and downs of your spiritual life...

As you look to the font, reflect on your journey in the light of your baptism...

Fold the paper and put it in an envelope; seal the envelope with water from the font, and take it with you.

long thin papers, pens, pencils, erasers, gummed C6 envelopes, brush for water, Bible

3.

deciding what to bring to God

What do you want to bring to God today?

Thanks and praise... problems... hopes and fears... pain... a difficult decision... sorrow for sin... a heavy burden... a longing for something... guilt... bitterness... joy?

Choose a thread to represent each of the things you want to offer, and take them with you to the cross.

lots of threads, ribbons, string, wool, cut in 10-20cm pieces, table, spotlight

4.

bringing things to God; offering yourself

This is the place to offer your life and everything in it to God, as he gives himself to you.

Lay your envelope beneath the cross; give him your life, past, present and future.

Hang or tie your threads on the cross one by one, committing the things they signify to God.

free-standing 'wicker' cross, kneeler, Bible, hymn/song books, spotlight

5.

exploring death and new life

Let God speak to you...

Here with the sand tray are some symbols of death and resurrection, reminders of the events of Holy Week and Easter.

Let God speak to you...

Pick things up and move them around... explore their meanings.

Let God speak to you...

See if there's a picture which means something to you...

Let God speak to you...

sand tray, seeds, eggshells, nails, pot-plant, oil, barbed wire, driftwood, stones, gold chips, palm crosses, tea-lights, lighter, chairs, Bible

6.

praying for the church

"Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one body by the cross."

Choose a verse or two to help you pray for the Christian community you belong to - and for the wider church.

Write a prayer, or an issue for prayer, on the big sheet of paper if you'd like to.

verses, lining paper, marker pens, flat tables across pews, spotlight

7.

praying for the 'world'

"God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ"

Use the newspaper pictures to suggest people and places in need of prayer.

Write (or draw) your concerns with wax crayon on a piece of card, then brush over it with watery paint as you pray for God's healing and forgiveness and justice and peace.

Hang your work up to dry!

newspaper pictures, A4 card, wax crayons, paint, water, brushes, dish, 'washing line' & pegs, table & chairs

8.

praying for people you know

"God reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation"

Find chairs to represent special people you'd like to pray for - family, friends, neighbours, colleagues.

You might like to arrange the chairs in a circle, then go round praying for the person each chair represents.

variety of chairs arranged around a central space

9.

reflecting on your time here and what you're taking away with you

God is in this place - and in you.

Reflect for a moment on your time here...

Is there anything else you need to do while you're here - or after you leave?

Take a small cross as a reminder of today.

Go in the knowledge of God's call on your life, and his presence with you this Easter and always.

Bangladeshi crosses, Bible

We hope your time in the Holy Week Labyrinth has been good.

If you would like someone to pray with you about a particular need, please ask at any of this week's services.
